What a Night!
She had never experienced such powerful and explosive mind-shattering lovemaking in over three decades of her lifetime. It was a night she wouldn’t forget in a long time and may as well be the best night of her life. She was almost sure there wouldn’t be a repeat , not with her husband and not with Ayoola when he came to his senses.
Her alarm had started ringing at 6am on that Sunday morning, waking her up and saving her from facing Ayoola after the mind-blowing night they just shared. She winced when she remembered how shamelessly she had thrown herself at him like a sex-straved teenager. Well, she was sex-starved and he exceeded her expectations in every way that counted. Her body zinged and ached in a delicious way that made the secret place between her laps grow wet. His lean body was still tangled around her and he held her as if she meant the world to him, even in sleep. Tears filled her eyes but she had to leave before he woke up. He would hate her. She didn’t want to see the hatred or disappointment in his eyes.
It was a struggle to disentangle herself from his hold without waking him but she did and made her way to his sitting room, picking up her clothing. She couldn’t find her panties but had to leave when she realised dawn was breaking. She was ashamed of herself, of her conduct last night and the way she threw herself at him but she couldn’t stop the smile spreading over her face as she rode the Cab home. She felt good. She would deal with the Consequences later.
Kelvin was sleeping in the sitting room when she tip-toed into the house and she could see the dining table was still set with last night’s dinner. Guilt nearly crept up on her but she bit it down. She hadn’t intended to cheat on him. She had just wanted to see Ayoola so badly. The meeting with her parents hadn’t gone well and she had ended up at his bar after her meeting with Tiaraoluwa. She was nursing a drink , hoping he would turn up when a text message dropped on her phone. It was from Titilola and it contained Ayoola’s house address.
Nerves and anxiety attacked her and she kept drinking as she mulled over what she wanted to do. She needed to know if she was being a nuisance in his life. Her messages weren’t delivering to his whatsapp and his calls were not connecting. Well, she took a plunge and went to find out. Obviously, Kelvin had been tampering with her phone.
‘Where are you coming from?” Talk of the devil. She turned around and faced him.
“I am coming from a friend’s place. We over-drank and I slept off at her place.” Evelyn, when did you turn into this smooth lair? Did she really want to live her life this way? The guilt was beginning to set in and she just wanted to be alone.
“Can we talk please? Maybe on our way to Church?” His smile was tentative as he got to his feet.
“You want to go to church?” She gawked at him in shock. Who stole her husband? Who was this man?
“Common, Eve. I am not that bad. Let’s go to church and then, we can talk or better still go out for lunch afterwards.” He grinned at her. He was a beautiful man but his smile no longer had any effect on her.
“Okay. I will go and get dressed up then.” What was he up to? Well, she would find out. She turned around and trudged upstairs. What she really wanted to do was to take a cold bath, and fall into bed for a deep, restful sleep or just savour the memory of being with Ayoola. It would remain the best night of her life for a long time. In his presence, she felt seen, wanted, appreciated and loved. In his arms, she felt protected, craved … as if the world began and ended with her. Unfortunately, her marital vows beckon and she had to answer as long as she was still shackled to this marriage. A long, heavy sigh escaped her.

She had cheated on him!
He could smell it all over her. She had spent the night in a man’s house, looking all rumbled and unkempt but with that glow in her eyes. That glow that women carried whenever they had been thoroughly ravished and satisfied. Was it the Cabman? He was the kind of man that would appeal to a woman like Evelyn. Cool , Calm with a mysterious air around him that always drew women like ants to sugar.
He messed up. He messed up big time. His hands were in a fists beside him and his eyes shot daggers at her back as he watched her climb the staircase. He felt like wrapping it around her neck and squeezing until no breath was left in her fat body.
Taking several deep breaths, he willed his anger away and willed his brain to think properly. Apart from the fact that he didn’t want to end up in jail, she was more useful to him alive, than dead.
She would pay. Oh! She would rue the day she met him and he wouldn’t give her the freedom he was sure she would demand from him. His son’s guardian was still milking him for money and he needed Evelyn’s money to pay. His biological child would be heir to Wright’s properties and Evelyn was the woman who would bore that child. The work began tonight.
Evelyn Wright was nothing but a cheap, lying whore and she would pay dearly for allowing another man to touch her while she was still married to him.

Ayoola stretched out his hand, unconsciously to the other side of the bed, searching for her but only came across empty space and a handful of rumpled bed sheets. They had taken the party from the sitting room to his bedroom, almost tumbling once or twice along the way because they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
“Eve!” Her name tumbled out of his lips as his eyes fluttered open but he knew she was gone before he even opened his eyes. A sigh escaped him as he rolled onto his back and stared at the ceiling. He missed her already.
Her scent was everywhere, intoxicating him and reminding him of the best thing that ever happened to him. The reality of being with her was better than any imagination he ever had of what lovemaking felt like with Evelyn Wright. Scooping up the rumbled sheet, he buried his head in it and inhaled her scents.
Could you just be mine and free me from this mystery, Eve?
His heart ached as a sigh escaped him. Dropping the sheet, he rolled out of bed and walked to the sitting room, stark-naked. Her clothes were gone. She had folded his own and placed it neatly on the sofa.
Sinking onto the sofa, he sat down and stared into space. Could he honestly commit to another woman when he already feels this way about one? He and Kemisola were great friends and he was already thinking of making her his official girlfriend but they hadn’t had sex since they reconnected. She held his hands whenever they were in public and looked for an opportunity to touch him or kiss his cheek or lightly peck his lips. He didn’t mind but he never had the urge to touch her.
With Kemisola, he was the broody, quiet man with a few words who did more listening than talking. With Evelyn, he came alive. They talked endlessly and moved effortlessly from one topic to another. Unfortunately, he couldn’t be with Evelyn until she decided to leave her husband. Could he wait till she made that decision or should he persuade her to do so? Was she willing to do so? Did she want him badly enough to leave her husband for him?
Oh God! Ayo, was he honestly considering pushing a woman to leave her husband for him? If the table was turned, how would he feel?

The drive to the Church was uneventful and Evelyn dozed on the way. They had both tried to make small talk but she couldn’t remember the last time they sat down and had a decent conversation. They literally had nothing to say to each other. He made small talk about his current position at work and after several tries, she dozed off without meaning to. Her body and mind were tired and she would have preferred to stay home today.
The sermon was beautiful and inspiring. Even though she felt guilty about her rendezvous with Ayoola, she didn’t regret it but she decided to ask God for forgiveness and had a heart to heart talk with her husband. Her father had advised her to try to make her marriage work in the next six months and she would do that.
After church, Kelvin drove to a local diner they used to visit during their courtship and a grin spread over her face as he pulled up in front of the shabby building. The place was owned by a widow, Mrs Ogechi Nwachukwu, popularly called ‘Mama IK’ and she cooked a mean ‘Afang’ and ‘Apu’ whose delicious taste always lingered on her tongue for a long time. Evelyn always called ahead to pay for a litre or two of the soup to take home after the meal.
“You remember this place?”
“Of course, I do. I remember everything about you. I just don’t know why we drifted apart.” Turning off the ignition key, he turned to face her and there was a pained expression on his face.
Kelvin was a smooth lair. She reminded herself not to fall for his trick. “You stop making love to me but turn around to make love to my housegirl. Then you honestly wondered how we drifted apart.” She blurted as she glared at him.
“I am so sorry, Eve. I don’t know what came over me. Can you please forgive me? Please?” There was remorse in his voice and she studied his expression, wondering if she should believe him.
“Are you sure it won’t happen again? Are you promising? There is so much a woman can take.”
“I promise, baby.” He drew her into his arms and hugged her. She was a bit hesitant at first but gave in eventually. She honestly hoped she wouldn’t regret this. “Thank you. Please I don’t want that Cab man around you again.”
“What! Why?” She jerked away, glaring at him. How could she live without seeing Ayoola? She should have seen this coming. “Was that why you blocked his number?”
He sighed, “I am sorry if that offends you, Eve. If we want this marriage to work, we need to focus on each other with no distraction. Let’s start over again please.” His voice was pleading as he took her hands in his.
“You are right.” Guilty and shame threatened to swallow her. “I promise.” What was she doing?
“That is my girl.Thank you.” Placing a kiss on her knuckles, he grinned at her and a reluctant smile lifted her lips. “You look amazing by the way. What have you been doing to yourself?” His eyes drifted over her body ,lingering on her curves blatantly and she blushed.
“Get out. Let’s go and eat jor.” Smiling shyly, she opened the door and stepped out of the Car, missing the glint of mean satisfaction in his eyes.
He joined her and they walked hand in hand into the old diner.
